Draw a Diner Dragon (while you wait)

Waiting! It's hard for adults and even harder for children, especially when everyone's hungry, seated in a restaurant, and surrounded by the aroma of woodfired pizza, sizzling fajitas, or burgers on the grill. But, instead of everyone grumpily reaching for a phone, transform "cranky" to "creative", "hangry" to "happy" by drawing a Diner Dragon together!
This activity requires nothing more than a placemat, a pen, and a few artists of any age. Best of all, it fills the time, whether two minutes or 20, keeps everyone engaged, and creates a keepsake of your time together.
It's simple: Find a placemat, napkin, or piece of paper. Player 1 draws a small doodle and passes the paper to the next player. Player 2 adds their own doodle to player 1's doodle and passes to the next player. Keep passing and adding until the wait ends. As you can see from the Diner Dragon here, the longer the wait, the better the dragon! When your wait ends, snap a picture of your creation - I guarantee it'll make you smile in the future. This smiley dragon reminds me of three generations waiting together, hungry but happy, at a beach diner in Santa Cruz.
There are lots of times in life when we must wait. Learning to wait - patient, busy, and with a good attitude - are great life skills and important to our faith walk, too!
God bless you and yours, even as you wait!
"Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." (Psalm 27:14)
